Church History
Agape Storge Christian Center was
birthed in the den of our beloved Pastor and his God-fearing, vivacious
Queen, Minister Gwendolyn Williams, in the mid-eighties. Dr. Williams
had no intention of being a Pastor in the beginning. He just had a
passion to teach the Word of God with signs and wonders following. He
was thoroughly enjoying going from church to church evangelizing.
Being on fire for God, others who were hungry and thirsty for the
Word began to gather at their home for Bible Study. The word had begun
to spread concerning Bible Study and pretty soon the crowd outgrew the
limited space in their den.
The search was on for a facility to meet the demand of the growing
crowd. Having limited resources, Pastor managed to secure the Miller’s
Memorial Center (a community center exclusively slated for social and
civic functions-dances, parties, meetings, etc.) as a new meeting place
for services.
The favor of God was manifested and rent was cheap. The hungry,
thirsty souls that consistently gathered at the Center prayed fervently
and worshiped God faithfully. Through tenacious prayer and the anointed
Word prevailing, growth was inevitable. Consequently due to the
unfailing prayer, diligence and practicing of the Word, God said, “It’s
time to go to another level.” Our foundation scripture is James 1:22,
Be ye doers of the Word and not hearers only. It was evident that the
Word was working!
After hearing that the landmark, Revels Memorial Methodist Church had
been vacated, our search committee sought to pursue purchase of that
building. In the early nineties, we secured a loan to purchase the
edifice. The people had a mind to work and the inside of the building
was quickly converted to suit our style of worship.
Subsequent to a few more years, the membership grew by leaps and
bounds. Wall to wall worshipers packed the sanctuary every Sunday and
their children crowded out the Children’s Church Ministry. We were in
constant violation of the fire code. God was manifesting Himself with
signs following.
The time had come to go to yet the next level. Supernaturally, God
provided such as was needed to transform a foul-smelling, deserted,
empty shell of a grocery store (nothing but steel beams and rotten
floors) into something beautiful, desirable and valuable. This was the
beginning of debt freedom. A year after settling into this facility,
the Board of Trustees agreed with Pastor to pay off the building on
Edison (Revels Memorial)-and it was so!
Shortly thereafter, Pastor along with the Finance Committee devised a
plan to pay off the 32+ acres of prime land on South Colorado Street
-and it was so! And then, the ministry was presented with an offer to
purchase seven more acres in the same area and again without a loan.
Later, God graced Agape to obtain another 1.7 acres on the property debt
free which adds up to over 40+ acres of land. Hallelujah! We are a chartered church and a tithing church-the fastest growing
church in the Greater Delta Area-with a membership of more than (500)
five hundred.
WHAT’S NEXT? In the very near future we are planning to build a
multi-million dollar facility. Construction will take place in three
phases. Phase I (Sanctuary), Phase II (The Family Life Center), and
Phase III (The ASCC School of Grades K-12) June of 2004 is the
expected starting date for this project.
Presently, the last stages of planning are in place for the new
sanctuary, but we are not looking at what we have, we are looking at
what God can do with what we have.
According to Numbers 14:8, …because God delights in us: He has given
us the land, therefore we are commissioned to rise up and build the
sanctuary of the Lord God. Nehemiah 2:20 says, …He will prosper us;
therefore, we his servants will rise up and build...Hallelujah! Glory
to God! |
